I Smelled Soap Today!

Well, actually, it wasn’t today, it was a few days ago. But please read on.

My sense of smell is really weird. 95% of the time, I can’t smell anything. Then, once every 3 or 4 weeks, when I’m outside in the open air, or in a large enclosed space, I can smell something in the air as well as I could have smelled it prior to my loss of smell.

For example, earlier this week, I was at my local grocery store shopping. I couldn’t smell anything - not the floral arrangements, not the bakery section, nada. then all of a sudden, while walking past an artisanal barsoap display table, I could smell soap!

I didn’t know which one among the ten or so different colored and scented soaps I was smelling, so I took a minute and sniffed each type of soap.

People around me likely worried a little about why this random guy was standing there sniffing soap, but I didn’t care because I was on a mission to find the soap that all of a sudden I could smell!

Eventually, after a methodical examination of the soap bars, I found the one I could smell, and it was a glorious Pacha spearment lemongrass infused soap. (Yes, it was a Whole Foods store.)

I just stood there for a minute inhaling it. By that point, although I was happy to be able to smell something, I was also cognizant that I might be looking rather strange to people around me, so put the soap in my shopping cart and headed to checkout.

Sadly now, days later, I cannot smell that bar of soap. But I will keep it, and hope that one day I will be able to smell it again.

In the meantime, I am working on smell training. More on that later.

By the way, I am sure there are other Pacha soaps that smell wonderful, but i just can’t smell them (yet).
